I used to avoid blush like the plague. Like, who wants to risk looking like a clown, right?
Honestly, I only recently started exploring makeup, and I’m still figuring out what works for me (and how not to mess it up!).
My first blush was a random pink one I picked up from a local shop. It wasn’t terrible, but it didn’t look natural either. That’s when I decided to do a little research and try something better.
To my surprise, Wet n Wild blushes kept popping up, even in videos by YouTubers like Shreya Jain who usually swear by high-end products. The shade Mellow Wine, in particular, had everyone gushing.
So I thought, why not? Let’s see what the hype’s about.
Here’s my review and swatches of the Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine.

My Experience with Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine

Product and Packaging
Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush comes in a rectangular pan with a transparent lid. It’s cute and thin. A tiny rabbit on a corner says cruelty-free, which makes me adore the product more! All product details are written on the bottom.
Backside has product details, plus a tiny brush. While the brush isn’t totally useless, it doesn’t really help blend the product. It tends to deposit color in one spot rather than evenly diffusing it, so I prefer using my own brush.

Shade
Mellow Wine is a gorgeous, warm peachy-pink shade. I’ve noticed it pulls more pink when I apply it with my fingers, and much more peach with a brush. But either way, it’s a stunning shade.
On my slightly fair skin, it gives me a very natural flushed-cheek look that I absolutely adore—way better than straight-up pinks.
This shade is especially flattering on fair to medium Indian skin tones, but honestly, I think it’s one of those colors that can work for many.
For deeper skin tones, you may want something a bit deeper, but it’s still worth trying. (Pro tip: always swatch it on your cheek, not your hand—it makes a world of difference.)
The Color Icon range has five shades, and Mellow Wine is the only fully matte one. The rest have a slight shimmer.

Pigmentation
This blush is super pigmented. You only need a little, so don’t go in heavy-handed.
I use a large powder brush, mainly because I’ve got chubby cheeks, and it gives me a light, diffused wash of color.
I usually build it up with 2-3 light layers, and sometimes swipe a little across my nose for that fresh, sun-kissed vibe. The color payoff is fantastic from the first swipe.
Texture
It’s got a buttery-smooth, almost silky texture that feels lightweight. It’s so soft that your brush can pick up a lot of product. Definitely tap off the excess before applying.
It blends gracefully, giving a skin-like finish. I usually just use my powder brush to blend, but a beauty blender or fluffy blending brush works wonderfully too.
Longevity
If there’s one thing I wish was better, it’s the staying power.
It doesn’t completely wear off, but by the end of the day, if I haven’t done any touch-ups—it fades quite a bit. I get just a faint trace of color left. So yeah, reapplication is needed if you want that flush to stay fresh all day.
What else?
Wet n Wild is a cruelty-free and vegan brand that boasts seriously good quality at highly affordable prices. This blush is one of the most budget-friendly options out there that still performs like a high-end product.
However, it’s not as easily available as other brands. I’ve only seen it on Nykaa, Amazon, Flipkart, and HOK Makeup. Haven’t spotted it in stores yet, which makes it a bit tricky to try shades in person.
So if you’re thinking of buying it, check as many reviews and cheek swatches as possible, especially for base products like foundation or concealer.
Compared to my earlier blush (a generic drugstore pink), Mellow Wine felt way more natural. If you want a shimmer finish instead, you can also try ‘Pearlescent Pink’ from the same range.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine
Final Word
This blush honestly changed my mind about using blush at all. Mellow Wine feels like it was made for Indian skin—subtle, lightweight, and gives that “you but better” kind of glow. If you’re just starting with makeup, it’s hard to go wrong with this one. It blends effortlessly, the pigment is buildable, and the finish is super natural.
Eventually, I might try other options, but this is one blush I know I’ll always come back to. Like many beauty creators said, it really is a must-have shade for warm skin tones. Especially if you’ve been scared of looking too made-up—this shade might just change your mind too.
