Makeup starts with foundation, as we all know. Whenever we’re going to parties, functions, and weddings, we use foundation. A little bit of this makes the face glow and hides imperfections.
The right foundation shade can enhance your look and facial features, but choosing the wrong one can ruin it. Make sure you pick the right foundation for your skin tone.
The first foundation I owned was Lakme (and most women swear by this product).
So today I’m gonna review Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation in Natural Shell shade.

My Experience with Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation

First impressions
The packaging is classic Lakme: a glass bottle with a dark maroon cap. It’s elegant, but you need to handle it carefully. The transparent design is practical, letting you easily track how much’s left. I wouldn’t mind seeing an ingredients list on the label.
I finally settled on the shade Natural Shell after a lot of searching. It runs 2–3 shades lighter than my skin, so if you’re dusky, it’s important to blend well or consider Coral (darker) so you don’t get that unflattering white cast.
Shade guide for Indian skin tones
For context, here are Lakme foundation shades:
- Pearl: For fair skin (it has pinkish undertones)
- Marble: Medium to fair skin (yellow undertones)
- Natural Shell: for wheatish skin (best for many Indian complexions)
- Coral: for Dusky skin
- Natural Beige: matches medium-toned skin nicely
- Natural Cinnamon: Deeper, warm skin tones
Natural Shell worked decently for me, though just a shade darker would’ve been ideal. Update: Lakme recently added shades for dusky beauties, which I appreciate.
Feel texture and scent
The consistency of Lakme Perfecting Liquid Foundation is thick and gel-based since it contains silicone. It smells like classic Lakme makeup: soft, powdery, slightly sweet. A little nostalgia, a little newness.
Even though the texture looks dense, when applied on the face, it feels lightweight and blends easily. It evens out skin tone beautifully, with medium coverage for big blemishes and nearly full coverage for small imperfections. Leaves a natural glow on the face.
But remember, if the shade’s not matching, you will notice a white cast.
Perfomance
On my oily skin, it lasts solidly for 4–5 hours, after setting it with a compact powder. After that, a little shine starts to appear, but it’s not a melting mess. I found it lasted well throughout the day and stayed noticeable without fading entirely.
Oh, and I noticed that after a few hours, it starts to oxidize on my skin, which is a common issue among dusky skin types with this foundation.
Although it claims to be water-resistant, half of the foundation came off when I tried washing my face, just to test. It left a natural, subtle tint, though. It’s not waterproof, though, nor does it claim to be.
Over time, my face started to sweat, but less. So its oil-free claim is somewhat true. There’s no SPF, which could be a concern for some.
A good makeup remover cleans it off entirely and gently, without leaving a residue.

Pros
- Affordable price
- Contains vitamin E that nourishes the skin
- Spreads and blends into the skin easily
- Keeps skin oil-free for a longer time
- Covers imperfections effectively
- Water-resistant to some extent
Cons
- Does not contain SPF
- Ingredients not mentioned

Final Word
This is my first-ever foundation, so I’m quite nostalgic. I’d say it’s an affordable daily-wear staple with a semi-dewy, skin-melty finish. Being budget-friendly and easy to use, I recommend it to anyone new to makeup to try this. It’s affordable and the quality has not been compromised for the price. However limited shade range is still an issue. Just make sure you choose the right shade and you’re all set.

Hi Anu,
While you can use this foundation on your acne scars, I would advise you not to use it if you have active acne.
