I enjoy the look of a matte lipstick, but I just cannot tolerate the way they make my lips feel dry and cracked.
I’ve tried a variety of expensive matte lipsticks, but they just never seem to work for me. So when the nice lady at a Colorbar store recommended a lip primer to me, I was all ears.
Like a face primer, a lip primer is supposed to smooth out the texture of your lips and make your lipstick last longer, without making your lips look cracked and dry. This sounded like all I had been looking for, so I quickly got myself Colorbar Lip Prime and Care.

My Experience with Colorbar Lip Prime and Care
The lip primer comes packed in a beautiful silver colored, reflective cardboard box. All the details are mentioned on the box. It’s cruelty-free, made in Italy, and dermatologically tested. Inside, you can find a black coloured lipstick-like tube. It is quite sleek, lightweight, and travel-friendly. The cap shuts tightly.
The lip primer is retractable. In the packaging, the lip primer appears white. It has a faint chemical scent, but nothing noticeable on the lips.
Although it looks stark white in the tube, the Colorbar Lip Prime and Care applies clear on the lips without any tint whatsoever. It glides on very smoothly and instantly feels moisturizing. I like to wait for a minute or so before going over with my lipstick, and my lip lines look a little filled in. It doesn’t fill in the deeper lines of my lips, so the effect is quite subtle.
After wearing this lip primer, I definitely feel that my matte lipsticks apply more smoothly. There is absolutely no tugging or pulling. Drier formulas like MAC’s Retro Matte become easier to work with.
As far as the longevity of the lip products is concerned, I did feel that the Colorbar Lip Prime and Care significantly extends the wear time of the lipsticks. However, keep in mind that if you eat oily food, nothing in this world will keep your lipstick intact.
This primer makes even my creamy lipsticks last longer on my lips. My lips do not feel dry whenever I wear this product underneath lipstick. There is no flakiness, and my lipstick does not crack.
Due to the moisturizing effect of this primer, you can also use it as a regular lip balm. If you do not have really dry lips and your lip balm works fine for you, I think that you do not need this product. It’s also important to note that this primer will not be effective if you have a lot of dead skin on your lips. You will need to exfoliate your lips before going over with the lip primer for the best results.
At 899 rupees, this is most certainly not an affordable product, considering that you get really little quantity. However, despite the price, I think that it’s an investment. It significantly increases the wear time of lipsticks and makes even the most matte lipsticks feel super comfortable.

Final Word
Despite the tiny quantity you get, I find the Colorbar Lip Prime and Care worth the investment. It is not a necessity, but if your lips always crack whenever you wear matte lipsticks, this product is a lifesaver!
