You must be aware by now that Maybelline has just launched Lip Gradation by Color Sensational. Before launching it here in India it’s already launched in some countries and are called ‘Color Blurs’. You would have noticed that Maybelline is giving us back to back new launches which is pretty exciting. I have picked myself a beautiful red shade called Red1 and after using it like crazy, I’m ready for a review!
Price: Rs. 500/- for 1.25 gm
What does it claim?
Go Bold Or Graded And Sexy On Your Lips With The New Color Sensational Lip Gradation. It’s time to experiment with your lip makeup. For the sexy, bold and adventurous woman, Maybelline New York brings international trends with the newest Lip Gradation. The color stick at one end will give a gorgeous pop of color while the cushion blender tool at the other end will give a sexy, graded look. For a complete trend-on look, apply color on the centre of your upper lip and use the sponge smudger to extend the color to the outer edges till the contours of your lips or use it as a matte lip color or a lip liner.
How to use:
1. Prep your lips
2. Apply color on center of lips
3. Blend the color outwards.
Maybelline Lip Gradation comes in a chubby stick packaging with the lip pencil on one end and smudger on the other. It reminds me of Maybelline FashionBrow Duo Shaper which I’ve reviewed here. Packaging is definitely innovative.
My Experience: Lip Gradation is simply for creating an ombre lips which is a vogue among Western beauty bloggers. I’m not a fan of ombre lips but hey, it looks pretty right? So when this got launched, I got it!
The shade Red1 is a beautiful deep red just like a pure red rose. It’s pigmented to the core. One swipe and it covers lips well. It will suit each and every skin tone perfectly since it’s not a bright shade and rather muted. To be honest, I bought this because of this flattering shade. Its quantity is less for the price paid which is disappointing.
Smudger is soft and cushioned and evenly fades the shade.
It’s formula is what I’m raving about! It’s super light and creamy like a feather and matte at the same time. You really need to prep up your lips before applying this to avoid flakiness. It’s not much drying but you know how mattes are! Honestly, I use it as a lip pencil or as a lip color because that ombre look isn’t flattering on my pigmented lips.
Coming to its staying power, it stays on the lips for almost 4-5 hours which is impressive but eating and snacking can fade it a bit. It transfers easily onto anything or even a slight rubbing. Since this shade is dark, it leaves behind a stain!
Swatches:
It looks light on outdoors! |
Pros:
●Beautiful red shade that’s not over the top.
●Pigmented to the core.
●Light, non waxy, matte texture.
Cons:
●Quantity provided is much less.
●Price is bit high.
● Transfers a lot.
Final Word: Lip blurring effect is a new trend for India and Maybelline is the first one to bring it here. Its less quantity is disappointing but its texture, pigmentation and staying power is outstanding. It would’ve been great if it was reasonably priced. I would recommend it if you’re into ombre lips or just love this shade!
