Golden Rose 2 in 1 Foundation & Concealer Review

Golden Rose 2 in 1 Foundation & Concealer is my first liquid foundation bottle. I haven’t used liquid foundations before, and this was the first time I actually bought one.

In all fairness, I wasn’t sure about how good it was going to be, and this was more about learning to master foundation rather than finding a perfect match (and it shows, but we will get to that later).

My Experience with Golden Rose 2 in 1 Foundation & Concealer

Total cover 2 in 1 foundation and concealer comes in a cylindrical glass bottle with a black cap. The BEST part is it has a pump dispenser. Many of the best foundations out there have a wand or need to be poured or squeezed, and I hate it. It gives me limited control over the product. A pump is so much easier to use and lets me squeeze just the amount I want.

The foundation has a perfect matte finish. But I’m not a huge fan of the shade range. It has 20 shades, but they are all concentrated towards lighter shades. I bought shade 13 natural tan, which I think is the darkest one available, at least according to the palette I saw on their website. I have a dusky tone, and it is too light for me.

The consistency is not runny. It has a slightly thick consistency. But I noticed that it looks streaky. I use a makeup blender to apply the product and blend it in. I find it a bit harder to blend in that it looks like spots where I dotted it. I don’t think this would have been a problem if it was more liquid. The foundation dries too fast.

This foundation from Golden Rose claims to be a foundation and concealer both. I found that the product has medium coverage though they claim to be full coverage. But it does not cover my imperfections all the way through. I have a black spot over my nose. If the product I use does not cover this up, then it doesn’t have full coverage. For me, it’s as simple as that. It does, however, hide my pores to an extent even without a primer. It is better to use a primer to cover pores completely. You can build coverage without looking very cakey.

When I bought the foundation, I made a mistake that many of us make: purchase the wrong shade! The shade I bought is definitely a shade lighter than my skin tone. I specifically matched the shade on my jaw and my neck with a makeup artist in the shop who told me it was my right shade. And under the store lighting, it looked so to me too. But unfortunately, I look whitish after I use it. So, I’m not really able to use it without looking pale. Right now, I use it as a highlighting concealer rather than a foundation.

I found that the foundation would suit normal or oily skin more. I have dry skin. I usually moisturize my face 15-20 mins before I put foundation. I apply sunscreen 10 mins after moisturizing. I really prep my skin to ensure that my dryness does not make my face look cakey or streaky. The product has a built-in SPF 15, so it is possible to skip sunscreen, but I still prefer to use sunscreen. It has a matte finish, but it looks a bit dryer to my taste on my face. Now, this is a personal thing. You can say that it has an immaculate matte effect also. It’s a thing of perspective.

It has an oil-based waterproof formula. I love this but hate it. I don’t find it necessary to set my foundation with powder. It lasts like 12+ hours easily. It stays in place, but this could be because my skin is dry. I’m not certain if that would be the case for oily skin. Staying in place sounds good till it’s the end of the day, and I have to remove my makeup. It takes some work actually to remove it completely. Even with oil, I need to go twice with my cotton pad to get it off completely. It will be easier to remove with a strong makeup remover, but I’m not a huge fan of strong chemical makeup removers. So, it takes me a little longer and harder to get it off completely.

Pros

  • Stays for long
  • True matte finish
  • Medium coverage, but buildable
  • SPF 15 and vitamin E
  • Paraben-free

Cons

  • Little difficult to blend

Final Word

Golden Rose 2 in 1 foundation and concealer provides medium coverage. It does not completely hide blemishes as concealers do. So, I still need a concealer to cover my dark circles all the way through. It has a true matte finish, but I do not like the shade range. I don’t think it will be possible to find shades matching the variety of skin tones. I would recommend the product for those who want a lasting finish and have lighter skin tones.
