Finding the right shampoo matters as much to me as picking the perfect skincare holy grail.
And when it comes to my hair, I don’t compromise.
While on my usual hunt for a new hair cleanser, I came across Anomaly Gentle Shampoo with Rosemary and Grapefruit by Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ brand, Anomaly.
I’ve already repurchased Anomaly’s Clarifying Shampoo four times (yes, really), so I decided to try something new from the range that claimed to be tough on buildup but gentle on hair.
Now that I’ve used it for months, I’m ready to share my thoughts with you—because if you’re planning to buy it, you’ll want to know what to expect.

My Experience with Anomaly Gentle Shampoo
I have an oily scalp with straight hair prone to frizz whenever the weather decides to switch up, so I’m always looking for a gentle and clarifying shampoo.
This one claims to work for all hair types, and I was curious.
So, first impressions: the packaging is quite simple and made from recycled plastic. Anomaly puts more thought into the formula than fancy packaging, which I appreciate. The bottle is transparent with a black flip top and feels pretty sturdy.

When it’s hair wash time, I wet my hair and squeeze out a dime-sized amount into my palm. The texture is quite runny, so be careful — a little goes a long way.

I massage the shampoo gently onto my scalp and work all the way to the ends, mainly focusing on the roots where my hair gets greasy first.
Since it’s SLS-free, don’t let the illusion of less lather sway you into using more quantity and ending up with dry, frizzy hair. I found that using less made it work better for my hair.
The scent is a lovely blend of rosemary and grapefruit, feels very light and refreshing. Since it doesn’t lather much, I add a splash of water to help it foam up just a bit.
After rinsing, my scalp felt clean and refreshed, and my hair smelled lightly citrusy fresh.
But since my ends are naturally dry, I definitely needed a good conditioner to restore moisture. On my straight, fine hair, this shampoo felt more clarifying than gentle, honestly.
I did notice a bit more frizz and dryness, and less softness compared to how my hair feels with Anomaly’s Charcoal Shampoo variant. On the good side, my hair looked clean and fresh for a couple of days.
Once I followed up with a deeply nourishing conditioner like the Herbal Essences Argan Oil Conditioner, my hair felt more balanced and manageable.
So I’d say this shampoo might work better for those with normal to slightly oily hair, more than fine hair that demands volume and hydration.

Final Word
After using it for a few weeks, here’s my honest Anomaly hair shampoo review: the shampoo does a good job at removing buildup and cleansing the scalp, but on my fine, slightly dry hair, it felt more clarifying than moisturizing. I had to be mindful not to overuse it, or it left my ends a bit parched.
Is Anomaly shampoo good? Yes, if your scalp leans oily and you prefer clean, minimal formulas. Just don’t skip the conditioner if you have dry hair.
The rosemary-grapefruit scent is pleasant, though. Still, the formula wasn’t quite what I hoped for, so I probably wouldn’t repurchase this one.
That said, I’m eyeing Anomaly’s Hydrating Shampoo with Coconut Oil and Aloe Vera next, formulated for dry, dull hair types, more in line with my hair’s needs.
