Here come the monsoon *drumrolls*. Who loves rain? Meee 😀 Who loves oily skin? Not me 😐
Monsoon is my favorite season as the weather outside looks amazing and cool breeze flows throughout the day. It’s the perfect season to indulge in chai and pakoras as the raindrops fall upon the window. At the same time, this season makes my skin oilier and dull due to humidity.
Caring for skin during the rainy season is a tad challenging task as your skin gets more sensitive and prone to infections. By taking care of a few things you can still maintain your skin. Here are 10 skincare mistakes to avoid during monsoon:• Not washing your face enough
Rainy season brings a lot of humidity which makes your skin oilier than usual. To keep oil from your skin at bay, wash your face at least 3 times a day especially when you have oily skin. Don’t forget to use a water-based moisturizer afterward.
- Slathering heavy makeup products
Rule #1 is to let your skin breathe and stay fresh. Avoid using heavy, oil-based foundations and compact powders on your skin as they can clog your pores. Use minimal makeup and only use water-based makeup if it’s important. Also, make sure it’s waterproof so that rain doesn’t ruin it.
- Not changing your skincare products
Skincare in the rainy season becomes tricky and you definitely need to change your products. Use minimal makeup and focus towards skincare as this is the season where you might experience breakouts. Use a matte finish moisturizer with adequate SPF, use an oil-free face cleanser and avoid deep moisturizing day creams.
- Indulging in hot showers
A warm shower after a tiring day would relieve your senses but also makes your skin prone to allergies. Avoid bathing with hot water at all costs as it can cause damage to skin hence making it too dry.
- Experimenting with different skincare products
If you’re a skincare enthusiast like me, you would be constantly searching and trying for new products. However, this can be lethal during monsoon. Trying new products can clog the pores of your skin and lead to bad looking breakouts. Use only trusted products at this month of the year.
- Not using a sunscreen
This is one of the most important skincare mistakes to avoid during monsoon. How many of us already do this? We don’t see the sun so we don’t think we don’t need sunscreen. Well, that’s where you’re wrong. No matter what, you need to use the sunscreen even on a rainy day because the UV rays are still present that might harm your skin. Choose at least SPF 20 for your skin.
- Not scrubbing away dead skin
Monsoon is the time when your skin starts to secrete more oil than usual and humidity makes it even worse. Due to this, your skin attracts dirt. Make sure you use a good quality scrub to clean away the dead skin.
- Keeping your skin soggy
Continuous exposure to humidity can make skin look lifeless and dull. It may also lead to fungal infections which are likely to aggravate acne. Use oil blotting sheets to soak up excess oil on your face.
- Letting your hair touch the skin
Choose those hairstyles which keep your hair away from your face. If you sport bangs then give them a side swept look so that they don’t touch your skin and irritate it. As your hair comes on your forehead, there’s a huge chance of breakouts. Open hair causes sweat so tie your hair in a loose pony to look chic.
- Staying dehydrated
Sip on as many liquids as you can. As you tend to sweat a lot more during monsoon, you lose hydration. This, in turn, takes a toll on skin and overall health. Drink coconut water and always carry a water bottle with you. At the same time avoid sipping on the unpackaged drinks available outside like shikanji, soda, etc as they can make you sick.
