Causes

Like we mentioned earlier, the causes for the occurrence of a blemish can range from environmental changes, medication intake, physical changes or simply hormonal changes. Though any of these could lead to blemishes, one of the most common causes for the occurrence of many different kinds of blemishes are hormonal changes or imbalances in the body. At times, our body tends to have an access to certain hormones that lead to the stimulation of the sebaceous glands, causing them to produce an extra amount of oil. This excess oil at times tends to mix with the dead skin cells of the body, resulting in the clogging of pores and hair follicles on the surface of the skin. This causes improper shedding of the dead skin hence, leading to the growth of bacteria within these pores of the skin. Women tend to go through a lot of hormonal changes during their lives, from puberty to adulthood and also during pregnancy and are therefore more prone to the occurrence of blemishes on the skin.

There are various other factors that cane lead to blemishes on the skin other than hormonal changes. Here are some to keep a check on:

  • Age: As we grow older, our body stops functioning to its optimum levels. Our body goes through changes and to incorporate these physical changes it tends to get affected by it. Some of these effects can be seen in the form of dark patches or spots in areas of the skin.
  • Sun Exposure: The harsh rays of the sun can increase the production of melanin in the body that is the main hormone responsible for skin darkening. The UV rays of the sun can cause dark patches or spots too.
